Managing Construction

Many health care facilities are reaching or surpassing their useful lives. Alternative methods of delivery and the shift in the demand for health care services make it difficult, if not impossible, to compete in today’s marketplace with out-dated equipment and buildings. Capital investment in renovation or new/replacement construction may be needed to stay in business.

A successful project requires a comprehensive, skillfully orchestrated program. Such a program not only addresses space and service needs, but also a details a budget and a business plan that determine financial feasibility. With the proper planning and market positioning, a project can generate enough revenue to cover operating expenses and the new debt service payments.

MPA’s methodology emphasizes:

  • Understanding and delineating the current demand for health care services in the provider service area
  • Specification of the issues, variables and assumptions needed to develop a sound business plan and integrate it within the project/construction budget
  • The early integration of the professional disciplines—architecture, engineering, construction management, project coordination—necessary to develop a business plan and a project/construction budget
