This week I had the pleasure of guest blogging for Harmony Healthcare International, about the crucial role culture plays in our compliance programs:
Is Your Compliance Culture Helping or Hurting You?
"Character, like a photograph, develops in darkness." - Yousuf Karsh
Our compliance program policies, procedures, and training program are designed to help our employees do the right thing. Our Compliance Officer devotes a lot of hours to showing employees how to do the right thing. We conduct audits of our policies and procedures in order to make sure our employees are doing the right thing. We have discipline standards that apply when people don't do the right thing, and investigation and corrective action policies waiting for when non-compliance is detected.
But how do we motivate employees to do the right thing when no one is looking? After all, most of the time, no one is looking.
